Jörg Immendorff

Werke aus Bremer Sammlungen und Skulpturen im öffentlichen Raum

After Jörg Immendorff's death on May 28, 2007, the Weserburg decided to realize a comprehensive exhibition of Jörg Immendorff in Bremen in collaboration with two private collections in Bremen. The background to this idea was the dream of placing a large sculpture by Immendorff in the public space of Bremen and to parallel this occasion with a comprehensive exhibition. This dream is now becoming reality. As a long-term permanent loan, a large monkey gate by Immendorff will find its new place of the future in front of the Sparkasse Bremen, Am Brill and another sculpture by the artist will be placed on the station forecourt.

Love of my Life

50 Jahre Musikgeschichte | Fotografien von Siegfried Loch

His great love belongs to jazz: Siggi Loch, a veteran among record managers. At 25, he was the youngest head of an international record company (Liberty-United Artists) and made it to president of Warner Europe. Then he fulfilled his childhood dream and founded his own label ACT, today one of the leading brands in European jazz.

Out of time

Werke aus den Sammlungen

Out of time has approximately the meaning of "out of time", "no longer current". Literally, it could also mean "out of time" and would thus meet the actual theme and intention of this exhibition. On display are primarily works that have to do with the experience of time: with lived time, with the progression of time, but also with the futile attempt to stop it. Some works also deal with the problem of representability, the possibilities and the impossibility to illustrate something, to bring it into the picture.

Paint it blue

Werke aus der ACT Art Collection / Siegfried Loch

For years, a very special collection focus has been developing within the Act Art Collection of Munich jazz producer Siegfried Loch. Since acquiring a painting by Ernst Wilhelm Nay entitled "Blauklang" (Blue Sound), the collector has devoted himself in an increasingly intensive manner to the theme of the color blue. Thus, over the years, a thematically bound collection has emerged that revolves around the fascination of the color blue with works by outstanding artists of our time.

Say it isn’t so

Naturwissenschaften im Visier der Kunst

The sciences have always been a subject and source of inspiration for artists, influencing the artistic language of form, providing the know-how for the execution of certain works of art, being declared art, synthesized with art, and criticized by art. Since the end of the last millennium, a striking number of artists have been inflamed by a renewed interest in the natural sciences. They botanize plants, typify cow stains, build insect observation stations. They use scientific jargon, scientific forms of illustration, or create idiosyncratic models.

Gerhard Richter

Werke aus der Sammlung Böckmann

Gerhard Richter, one of the most important contemporary artists, is represented in the Böckmann Collection with an outstanding group of works. A selection of twenty works from the years 1960 to 2003 will henceforth form a new focal point in the Neues Museum Weserburg Bremen. Even at first glance, it becomes clear that Richter is a painter whose formal diversity surprises us time and again. In his oeuvre, "representational," "abstract," and "monochrome" pictorial approaches constantly alternate. This juxtaposition of different painterly approaches stands for a unique artistic attitude.

Thomas Demand | Gregor Schneider

Werke aus der Sammlung Olbricht

The artists Gregor Schneider and Thomas Demand are represented in the Olbricht Collection with important works. Demand works with the medium of photography. He constructs spaces and situations, which have already been disseminated as images by newspapers or television, into precise scenarios of cardboard and paper, in order to finally photograph them once again. These photographs have something in common with Gregor Schneider's sculptures and spaces in that they equally suggest something that is not (yet) visible. In this way, the works of both artists become localizations of hunches, memories, and assumptions.
