The poetic work of the Scottish artist, poet and writer Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925-2006) goes beyond traditional forms. He also realized his poems as outdoor installations in the landscape, such as the large garden "Little Sparta" in the Pentland Hills, where he lived since 1966.

Marcel Broodthaers. Musée à vendre

Die Sammlung Schmidt

Exhibition at the Center for Artists' Publications

"I, too, wondered if I couldn't sell something and succeed in life. For some time I have been good for nothing. I am forty years old. Finally the idea came to my mind to invent something insincere, and on the spot I set to work. After three months had passed, I showed the results to Philippe Edouardo Toussaint, the owner of the St. Laurent Gallery. But, this is art, he said, and I will gladly exhibit it all. [...]"

Jazz Art Posters

50 Jahre Montreux Jazz Festival

For fifty years, Switzerland's Montreux has hosted a now world-famous jazz festival. Every year in July, international musical greats take to the stages of the city on Lake Geneva and delight an equally international audience. Founded in 1967, the festival has become one of the most important cultural festivals in the world, attracting 250,000 visitors each summer on an international level. And every year, a new jazz poster is published that has been and will be created by artists, designers, and musicians. To mark the anniversary, the Weserburg is presenting the complete posters that have appeared so far.

Künstlerräume

In an exciting sequence, the Weserburg presents new artists' spaces for the third time. The artists self-confidently put their works and concepts up for debate. The exhibition thus provides insight into the diversity and quality of artistic production today, which are impressively reflected in the Weserburg's collections. It is precisely in the differences, contradictions, and confrontations that come to light in the process that the Weserburg's artists' spaces respond to the complexity of today's experience of the world.

Leuchte!

Designikone im Licht der Kunst

It is a classic of German design history - the Wilhelm Wagenfeld table lamp, known worldwide as the Bauhaus lamp. With its clear formal language reduced to the essentials, it is still an epitome of good design today. The exhibition at the Weserburg shows the design icon in an unusual light. Since 1995, 25 nationally and internationally renowned artists have been invited to artistically rework the luminaire. The result is a surprising variety of new works. They range from appreciative rebuttals to ironic commentaries to grotesque alienations.

Unter dem Radar

Underground- und Selbstpublikationen 1965 - 1975

"The unloved term 'underground' encompasses hippies, beats, mystics, nutters, freaks, yippies, crazies, eccentrics, communards, and anyone who rejects rigid political ideologies ('It's a mental disease') and is convinced that if they just blow their own brains, the Bastille will fall on its own," wrote Richard Neville in his 1970 book Play Power - Exploring the International Underground.

Junge Sammlungen 03

Der Raum zwischen den Personen kann die Decke tragen - Sammlung Ivo Wessel

Berlin-based software developer Ivo Wessel has assembled a distinctive collection that combines conceptual art with pictorial narrative. His special flair for discovery and his passion for idiosyncratic artists characterize the collection, as does his strong interest in literature and film. His fascination for the abysmal grotesque, but also for humorous and poetic forms, is striking.

ter Hell

Werke aus der Sammlung Böckmann

Berlin-based painter ter Hell (*1954) developed his own distinctive visual language in the 1980s. He combines elements of German Informel with those of the Abstract Expressionism of the New York School and combines them with elements of graffiti art. This results in works that combine a non-representational painting created in a direct gesture with subcultural forms of expression.
