Miwa Yanagi

Sammlung Deutsche Bank

08.04.2004 - 06.06.2004

Miwa Yanagi achieved a breakthrough in the international art world with her photo series Elevator Girls. Since 1992, various solo and group exhibitions in Japan and Germany have presented examples from this series, which deals with Japan’s consumer culture. In her oeuvre, the photographer, who was born in Kobe in 1967, focuses primarily on the role image of women in Japan. Miwa Yanagi’s new works in the My Grandmothers series analyze young people’s dreams for the future. Their image-formed personal visions of life in the year 2050 are accompanied by short, poetic-suggestive texts that emerged from conversations with the protagonists and thus create an additional level to the photography.

The exhibition is the Japanese artist’s first solo museum show in Germany, following her presentation at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin. The show continues the series of presentations with works from Deutsche Bank’s own collection.
