The folded city
Children culture project of quarter
A city unfolds – and grows together! Paper and art and children belong together. Because paper is something precious and living. Our world is unimaginable without paper. It is inseparable from our culture. Folding, gluing, cutting, tearing, cuddling, pressing or simply floating or flying – all this is possible with the material and fascinates not only the children and young people, but also the 30 participating artists who work with the children’s groups in Bremen and Bremerhaven. Exploring the city, their own district with its diverse life is the theme of the project. The approximately 500 children and young people are inspired by works of art in the Weserburg and in their journeys of discovery through all 14 Bremen districts and Bremerhaven. In the process, an entire cityscape is created out of paper – recycled, of course – with everything that goes with it: houses, figures, animals, plants and trees, cars, flying objects, ships, clothing, furniture …- designed three-dimensionally as silhouettes, sound collages, flower meadows, giant pop-ups, advertising columns, and circus life. All this can now be seen in this large exhibition!
Admission to the exhibition is free!

Neighborhood children's culture projects
Quartier gGmbh has been working with artists and cultural practitioners for more than 30 years to create cultural education projects where people live: in their neighborhoods. Children, young people and adults from different social and cultural backgrounds produce art and culture together. The results of this collaboration are presented in exhibitions at the Weserburg, among other places. The core of all Quartier projects is that people are given the opportunity to shape their own environment. Spaces, materials, and ideas are made available to try out new things and discover unknown abilities. The Weserburg has been a permanent partner since 2015.
