Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement
Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst is committed to making its website, weserburg.de, accessible and usable for as many people as possible. This statement explains how we intend to improve the accessibility of our website, which areas are currently not yet fully accessible, and how you can report accessibility barriers to us.
This statement applies to the website of Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst published at weserburg.de.
Scope of this statement
The weserburg.de website primarily provides information about the museum, exhibitions, events, the collection, education and engagement programs, visiting the museum, and other services offered by Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst.
The website also includes a Shop section featuring publications, exhibition catalogs, posters, editions, and other products. Individual products can be ordered by email. There is currently no automated online store with a shopping cart, customer accounts, an immediate online checkout process, or direct online payment. Because products can be ordered by email, the Shop section is considered particularly relevant in terms of digital accessibility.
In some cases, our event pages contain links to external ticket services operated by third parties. These external services are not part of weserburg.de and are operated technically by the respective providers. Information about and responsibility for the accessibility of these external systems lie with the respective providers.
Please contact us directly if you require assistance in connection with attending an event, placing an order, or using our website.
How accessible is the website?
The weserburg.de website is currently partially accessible. This assessment is based on an internal self-evaluation and an automated sample test conducted using the online evaluation tool WAVE. A comprehensive external accessibility audit has not yet been carried out.
Automated evaluation tools cannot assess every digital accessibility requirement. Further barriers may therefore exist that have not yet been fully identified or documented.
Which areas are currently not fully accessible?
Based on our current knowledge, accessibility limitations exist in the following areas in particular:
- Page structure and orientation
- The structure of the website is not consistently marked up in an accessible manner. Some pages may not have a clearly identifiable main heading or clearly defined structural, navigation, and content areas. This may make orientation more difficult for people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technologies.
- Links and controls
- Some links and buttons may not have sufficiently descriptive or technically identifiable labels. As a result, it may not always be clear where a link leads or which function a button performs.
- Keyboard navigation and assistive technologies
- The website’s usability with a keyboard, screen readers, and other assistive technologies has not yet been fully tested. Limitations may therefore occur in relation to navigation, focus order, controls, or embedded content.
- Magnification, mobile use, and display
- The website has not yet been fully tested for accessibility when used at high magnification, on mobile devices, or with assistive technologies. There are indications that zoom and scaling functions or the display of individual content elements may be limited.
- Images, media, and embedded content
- Some images, embedded media, videos, or external content may not currently be fully accessible. Possible barriers include missing or insufficiently descriptive alternative text, missing captions, embedded content with limited accessibility, or external content that cannot be operated fully.
- PDF documents and downloads
- Some PDF documents and downloads on the website may not be structured accessibly or may not provide sufficient accessibility. Possible barriers include missing tags, headings that are not marked up correctly, missing alternative text, or limited usability with screen readers.
- External content and links
- Some pages may contain or link to content and functions provided by external service providers, such as ticket services, newsletter services, maps, videos, or social media platforms. This content is not entirely within our technical control. We make every effort to identify external services as transparently as possible.
- Easy German and German Sign Language
- Information in Easy German and German Sign Language is not currently available for the website’s content. We intend to review this as part of our ongoing efforts to improve digital accessibility and to provide such information where possible.
Shop section and ordering by email
The Shop section of the website may not currently be fully accessible. Some product information, links, or controls may not be sufficiently clear or usable for people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technologies.
As orders are currently placed by email, we are happy to provide assistance when needed. Please contact us directly at shop@weserburg.de if you have any questions about a product or an order.
Why do these barriers exist?
The current website was developed several years ago. Within the existing system, extensive technical changes to its structure, navigation, semantic markup, usability, responsive design, and technical accessibility can only be implemented to a limited extent in the short term.
Improving digital accessibility will therefore be taken into account as part of the planned website relaunch. Particular consideration will be given to improved usability with assistive technologies, a clearer page structure, more understandable controls, and an improved presentation of the Shop section.
Until then, we will make every effort to gradually reduce editorial barriers as part of our ongoing work, within the limits of our existing technical and staffing resources. This includes using clearer link text, providing alternative text for new images, offering more understandable information in the Shop section, and making new documents as accessible as possible.
