Meisterwerke der Kunsthalle Bremen

In the sense of true hospitality, welcoming someone into one's own four walls means not only spatial accommodation but also active exchange, i.e. dialogs and correspondences, as befits an attentive host. Under this premise, the selection of outstanding works that the Kunsthalle is sending to the Weserburg Collector's Museum automatically enters into a relationship with the works of the 20th and 21st centuries already present here. It is thus a matter of hospitality of a special kind, not of a unison - juxtaposition, but of questions and answers, dialogues, confrontations, and demarcations.

FORT | POINT GRAY

Bremer Kunstsatellit 2008 in Reykjavik und nun zurück in Bremen

For a good three years now, several young female artists from Bremen have been working together in the form of a group of artists, each of whom has realized various projects in different personnel constellations in the irritating border area between art and everyday life. In the meantime, the original group has split into new segments. The part of the former formation that now calls itself FORT conceived and realized the Bremen art satellite for Reykjavik in 2008. POINT GRAY is the name of the project, which centers on a container that the artists transformed into a performance space for their art.

Kunstpreis der Böttcherstraße in Bremen 2009

Since 1955, the Böttcherstrasse Art Prize has been awarded in Bremen for artists in German-speaking countries. The prize, which is primarily committed to the young art of its time, has for decades been one of the most prestigious awards given in the field of contemporary art. Ten internationally renowned curators, museum directors, and exhibition organizers each propose an artist whose work is then presented in an exhibition, which this year can be seen for the very first time in the rooms of the Weserburg, Bremen's Museum of Modern Art.

Urban Art

Werke aus der Sammlung Reinking

Urban art is omnipresent. It leaves its traces and signs in urban space without being asked. With stickers, posters, large-scale murals and stencil graffiti, it is conquering public space. What began with graffiti in the major American cities on the East Coast 40 years ago has since evolved decisively. Many actors have emancipated themselves from the visual language of graffiti writing and tried out new forms of expression. In their interventions in the cityscape, they are generally not interested in damaging urban infrastructure, but in a dialogue with the public.

A.R. Penck

Deutschland

60 years of the Basic Law, 20 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification. In 2009 / 2010, we in Germany commemorate many historical events that have had a decisive impact on the development of our country. The Weserburg, Bremen's museum of modern art, is taking these commemorative days as the occasion for a two-part exhibition series centered on Germany. This thematic focus kicks off with the exhibition "A.R. Penck - Germany," which will be followed next year by the exhibition "Buccaneers of Utopia."

Who killed the Painting?

Werke aus der Sammlung Block

René Block has shaped the art scene of the past decades like hardly anyone else. His collection is one of the most important internationally in the field of Fluxus. And yet, since the 1960s, the committed curator, gallerist, publisher, collector, and honorary professor has always consciously moved beyond the commonplace and outside narrowly defined boundaries. He is not interested in the big names already absorbed by the art market, but in the artistic movements and meaningful contexts on the margins. Thus Block knows how to discover and promote artists at an early stage who work at a high level beyond the mainstream.

Norman White

we fix toasters. Preisträger des d.velop digital art award [ddaa] 2008

Norman White is one of the pioneers of interactive art, which would hardly be conceivable without computer control, since the respective work of art must be able to independently grasp the situation and react to it. His interest in independently acting machines, whose behavior is unpredictable despite programming by the artist, also applies to the works he created before his first use of computers. Both his early works and the later computer-controlled ones are on view in this first retrospective of White's work, giving you a never humor-free glimpse into the world of electronic (art) machines.

With "Fünfmeterweiter" the CUTone Network Bremen presents its latest work. The exhibition will open with an artistic film documentation of the Bremen Art Spring 2009. After the premiere on November 19 at 7 p.m., the generic project will start: A room-sized installation with several monitors presents the original film material in a surprising flow of constantly regenerating images and sounds. In this way, a new form of artistic presentation is created with the help of the most modern technical means.
