BERTENBURG

Malerei

At first glance, Achim Bertenburg's paintings look like monochrome surfaces with mist- or streak-like structures in them. Upon closer inspection, however, one thinks to discover hints of shapes within the painterly texture, shadows, or contours of objects or even landscapes evaporating in the mist of color. But this impression never becomes a certainty; in the end, the brushstroke and the overlapping, merging ambiguous color formations prove to be the actual motifs and motivation of these paintings.

Freibeuter der Utopie

Die Kunst der Weltverbesserung

In the exhibition "Freibeuter der Utopie" (Buccaneers of Utopia), the Weserburg shows artistic food for thought on the changeability of the world and society. The global economic crisis has forcefully shown how dangerous it is when politics places the shaping of society solely in the hands of the economy. But what about art? What possibilities does it have to exert influence? Under the title "Freibeuter der Utopie" (Buccaneers of Utopia), the Weserburg is now bringing together in a comprehensive exhibition artistic positions that make the dream of this changeability of the world present.

Zilla Leutenegger

More than this. In Kooperation mit der Sammlung Goetz

Swiss artist Zilla Leutenegger combines wall painting, drawings, objects and video projections to create expansive installations and light images. The works surprise with their playful lightness. Often a few sweeping but concisely placed strokes are enough for Leutenegger to create her own world. In sketchily suggested spaces, we repeatedly encounter the artist's alter ego: the art figure Zilla. She is the sole protagonist with whom she tests different role patterns and identities.

Mark Harrington

Between Spaces

In the non-representational paintings of the American painter Mark Harrington, horizontal lines and structures predominate. Harrington emphasizes that he and his paintings have a direct relationship to jazz. And conversely, his works inspire jazz pianist Michael Wollny and vibraphonist Christopher Dell to create new sounds. All three artists even speak of synergies and affinities that exist in their work. And all three are equally closely connected with the collector and music producer Siggi Loch.

Meisterschüler der Hochschule für Künste 2011

Ausstellung und Verleihung des Kunstpreises des HfK-Freundeskreises

The master student exhibition of the HfK 2011 gathers seven individual positions and gives exciting insights into the reflection of existential questions by young artists from Japan, South Korea, Bulgaria, Poland and Germany, who deal with inner-aesthetic questions such as those of abstraction, form and surface, the materiality and effect of color as well as with social and personal questions of meaning: The longing for home and security, for example, one's own loneliness and vulnerability, the oscillation of projections, recognition and misrecognition, or the search for the past and the unconscious.

Farbe im Fluss

20 Jahre Weserburg

The exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Weserburg shows the artistic use of free-flowing color since Jackson Pollock. Works by the most important representatives of abstract expressionism and color field painting are juxtaposed with works by younger artists. As highlights, Katharina Grosse, K.H. Hödicke, Peter Zimmermann, Nicolás Uriburu, Rainer Splitt, and others develop new works directly on site.
