Land in Sicht

400 years of landscape paintings

Landscape images have always been an expression of social ideas. They tell in an impressive way about our longings, dreams and fears. Whoever knows how to read them will see the world with new eyes. At the latest since the beginning of the ecological discussion, a carefree experience of nature is hardly conceivable. Nature becomes the moral counter-image of one's own culture. But political and social grievances also come into focus.
The Weserburg, Bremen's museum of modern art, is showing more than 100 landscape paintings from four centuries in its large special exhibition.

ART IN MUSIC

ART IN MUSIC Werke aus der ACT Art Collection

Music and visual art can enable experiences of quite unexpected interplay and mutual influence. As an art collector and jazz producer, Siggi Loch has built bridges between music and visual art in exemplary ways. For example, he has inspired numerous musicians to write compositions to paintings and has not infrequently selected works of art for his collection that open up a dialogue with the music. Many international works from his collection can also be found as cover motifs on ACT Music's jazz CDs.

The exhibition wants to overcome the documentary and make the emotionality of poetry visible. In cooperation with Poetry on the Road and the University of Applied Sciences Bremen

Im Inneren der Stadt

Künstlerpublikationen als Kunst im öffentlichen Raum

Exhibition at the Center for Artists' Publications

The exhibition project "Im Inneren der Stadt" takes up the changing constellations in and around public space and traces the question of the ways in which they have been mirrored, subverted, taken up or generally thematized in current artistic production since 1960. How do artists situate themselves in these contexts? And what strategies do they develop in dealing with them?

"The unloved term 'underground' encompasses hippies, beats, mystics, nutters, freaks, yippies, crazies, eccentrics, communards, and anyone who rejects rigid political ideologies ('It's a mental disease') and is convinced that if they just blow their own brains, the Bastille will fall on its own," wrote Richard Neville in his 1970 book Play Power - Exploring the International Underground.

ter Hell

Werke aus der Sammlung Böckmann

Berlin-based painter ter Hell (*1954) developed his own distinctive visual language in the 1980s. He combines elements of German Informel with those of the Abstract Expressionism of the New York School and combines them with elements of graffiti art. This results in works that combine a non-representational painting created in a direct gesture with subcultural forms of expression.
